TÁBOR |
Tábor is the second largest town in southern Bohemia and one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the Czech Republic. It is known for its eventful history, magnificent architectural monuments and interesting natural environment.
The history of the town is connected with the glorious Hussite campaigns led by Jan Žižka of Trocnov. There are left the remnants of the town's extensive fortification system. The picturesque corners of the Old Town continue to recall Tábor's eventful past at every step, as does the permanent exhibition of the Hussite Museum.
Every year, in mid-September, an international festival called Tábor's Meetings takes place in the town, transforming its centre for several days into a medieval market place alive with artisans, marketers and displays of knightly combat. Part of the festival is a festive procession that also includes a Hussite company led by Jan Žižka.
